5 Steps To Help You Organize, Plan and Reach Your Goals!

Updated: Feb 18, 2021

Sometimes our lives can be so filled with chaos we can neglect our own needs and lose sight of what is important to us. Setting goals is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. It holds us accountable, gives us something to look forward to and pushes us to reach higher. No matter what your circumstances are, setting goals and taking the time to focus on what you need and want in life is important. Some goals may seem impossible when you are planning them, but that’s perfectly okay. Believe that if you take necessary steps day by day you will reach your goals and you will see your dreams come into fruition. Here are 5 major steps that can help you plan your goals and stay on track:

1. Take Time to Meditate and Reflect

Meditation and reflection are important steps in deciding what it is that you want to accomplish. Now we’re not saying you have to bust out the candles and calming music (although this is considered effective mediation). We’re just saying take the time to put down your phone, neglect all distractions and focus on YOU. You are important and planning your next steps has everything to do with deciding what is best for you. Mediation and reflection help you to evaluate past circumstances, current circumstances and future circumstances. Once you have cleared your mind and found your focus, its time to move on to the next step.

2. Write It All Down.

A common mistake is to set your goals only in your mind. We take in so much information in one day. Our minds are constantly working and evaluating. So, with all that we have to think about and remember, your goals can be put on the back-burner if we aren’t viewing them daily. Writing down your goals helps you to remember what they are, remember the steps you are going to take to reach them and the time frame you plan to reach them in. Writing your goals down and viewing them periodically holds you accountable to commit to yourself and your dreams.

3. Organize! Organize! Organize!

Create a strategic format for your notes and goals. When your goals are organized and visually appealing it can make sticking to them much easier. So grab some highlighters, a planner or whatever it is you need to organize your goals. Get into the habit of keeping your goals organized and strategically planned. This makes it easier to reflect on what you have accomplished and what you still aim to accomplish. Organization is key!

4. Recognize the difference between long-term and short-term goals.

It’s easy to write a long list of goals and dreams and then feel discouraged when we haven’t reached them yet. Therefore, it’s essential to differentiate between long-term and short-term goals. So, here’s an easy way to look at it. Long-term goals are your “ultimate” goals. These are the goals that may take a lot of time and work, but they are ultimately what you want for your life. They are meant to be long-term, so don’t get discouraged when you don’t reach every goal in a short time frame. Every step is a step towards these goals. Under your long-term goals, set short-term goals that help you day by day, month by month and year by year. Short-term goals can be strategic in helping you reach your long-term goals or they can be goals you set day to day to help you stay organized and on track.

5. Don’t Give Up!

We can be our own worst enemy when it comes to having understanding and compassion for ourselves. It’s easy to become frustrated when we feel we aren’t reaching these goals fast enough or efficiently enough. We have to understand that everything happens in divine timing. Each time you right down your goals and make steps to try and complete them, you are growing. As you grow your goals may change and you may find a new direction. Never be to hard on yourself. Setting goals is a form of self-love. It allows you to take the time to focus on your needs and wants in life. Some people are afraid to set goals because it can be a reminder of what they haven’t achieved yet or it gives them anxiety when they feel pressure to reach them. Think of your goals as your dreams, every dream needs a strategic plan to come into fruition. Goals are just strategies that help you make your dreams come true. Keep setting goals, keep dreaming, keep growing and don’t give up.

You can do it!
